Portfolio Development

Maybe you're just curious about modeling, or maybe you're really interested in becoming one and want to explore the possibilities. In either case, you've come to the right place. The first step is to come in, tour the studio, and talk to us about modeling in general, and what we do in particular. Our primary focus is to help you become a "photographer's model" - that's someone who can work with individual photographers as a "freelance model" - and we can guide you through those first awkward steps in becoming a working model.

As a team, we have a skill set that will help you become a model. We can give models a unique perspective from both sides of the camera.

A complete RCMP background check is available upon request.

Free Consultation: Okay, we do hope you'll want to work with us as you build your portfolio, so this consultation is partly a sales pitch too. But we'll do our best to answer your questions and we'll try to point you in the right direction even if that direction is away from us. We're blunt and to the point so be prepared for that - and bring a bathing suit to change into. If you're going to be a model and if we're going to help, we do need to see what you look like. But keep this in mind, you don't need to be perfect, and we'll explain your choices.

To Book a Session, phone Jessica @778-678-0110 or contact her via e-mail to get things started.

A Modeling Experience
- a practice session AND an extended studio session - $450: (Hair & Makeup extra)

The practice session will last approximately ½ hour and is designed to help both of us.  You'll get a bit of an idea of what to expect during the main session, and you'll know what to practise at home to maximize results. We'll get to see how you look on camera. We'll use these images to design lighting and to determine what lenses and angles work best with your body type.

We'll also use images from the practice session for our own pre-session consultation with the hair/makeup artist you have chosen. (Hair and makeup are booked separately.)

The modeling session itself will last approximately 2½ hours. plus pre-session hair and makeup if included. If you're applying your own make-up, we suggest you come early and apply it here. (The lights in our makeup/change room are balanced to our studio lights.)

Bring as many outfits as you like. We spread everything out and help you select outfits. (See suggestions below.)

Who will be in attendance? I will be, of course, and ALWAYS, at least one responsible adult female photographic assistant (usually it's Jessica) to help with clothing and to adjust poses. Several hair and makeup artists are also available who will stay and work with you throughout the session.

If the model is under 18: We expect young models to be escorted to the Studio by a parent or guardian, AND we expect young models to be picked up at the end of the session by a responsible adult.  Our preferred scenario is for our young model's mother to stay throughout the session. We'll put her to work as an assistant. As a minimum, we recommend that parents return early to watch the last ½ hour of the session.  By then, the model is usually relaxed, and confident enough, to show off her/his modeling skills.

Parents are always welcome to sit and watch the entire session.  Boyfriends are not welcome.

Included is all of the above preparation and planning, the session itself, and a selection of 8 high-resolution images on a CD.  These images are retouched, post-processed, and prepared for printing or viewing. The above session fee does NOT include prints.  We do have an attractively priced print package available, but you are free to use any printing service, and save on printing costs.

Copyright for the selected images is included.

Hair & Makeup: We want you to look your best, and we do suggest using one of the four local hair and makeup artists who can be on hand throughout the session to adjust and assist. They understand the effects of lighting and know how to work with us as part of the team.

Your hair/makeup artist will bill you separately. We've kept hair and makeup separate because some models prefer to do their own.

What to Bring to the Session:

Bring several changes of clothing.
Pick items that flatter your figure.
(We’ll spread everything out, and mix & match.)

Please arrive well groomed. Pay particular attention to both finger nails and toe nails. Clothing should be wrinkle free.

Here are Some Suggestions:

Casual - blue jeans, sports and knit tops, button up tops, shorts, cut-off jeans, etc.

Dresses - both long and short - and bring some solid colours.

Business Suit - for a different look.

Shoes - several pairs of high-heels and dress shoes, boots, white running shoes, sandals, etc. - all clean of course.

Activities - sports, exercise, dance outfits, uniforms, shorts, etc. Also bring appropriate props: for example, if you bring a tennis outfit, also bring a racket and tennis balls.

Accessories - sunglasses, hats, gloves, necklaces, earrings, bracelets, neckties, men's shirts, jackets, etc.

Swim Wear - a bikini, or a one piece, that really flatters you.

Undergarments - thong and bra in flesh-tone colour - this is to eliminate lines that show under clothing.  Also bring a push-up bra, and a strapless bra.

Hose/nylons - in an assortment of colours.

Socks - in different colours including black and white.

Bring a scarf to wear when changing to help keep makeup off your clothing.
Also bring your own makeup kit, hair brush, and nail polish - even if your session includes hair and makeup.

The above are, of course, just suggestions. We’ll work with what you have.
